Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a valid referral letter?

You need a valid referral letter from your GP or Specialist to be covered by the Medicare Rebate. If you do not have a valid referral letter for a procedure or consultation then you will be responsible for settling your account. Please note that a referral from a GP has a duration of 12 months, and from a specialist is 3 months.

What do I need to bring for an appointment?

All you need for an appointment with our vascular surgeons is a valid referral letter and your medicare card or DVA card. No money will be required as we bulk bill all patients for consultations with our surgeons.

If you have a doppler test you will need to bring your medicare card or DVA card and wear comfortable loose clothing. You will be required to walk on a treadmill for a short amount of time.

Please view Doppler Tests for more information on the function and method of a doppler exercise test.

I have had an operation, will I need an appointment?

Yes, you will need to make a follow up appointment with your vascular surgeon as monitoring your recovery is important after an operation. It is recommended you make an appointment for 2 — 3 weeks after your procedure. Please note that it is the patients responsibility to make a follow up appointment.
